Economic activity

Mnemonic (reference code): ECOPUK

Definition: This derived variable is created using information from Questions 18 to 22 on the Census form and the question on Hours Worked (HOUPUK) and Employment Type (EMTPUK). The classification is based on the International Labour Office (ILO) definition of economic activity, and is an ONS harmonised survey classification.

Education deprivation, household indicator

Mnemonic (reference code): DEPEDHUK

Definition: This derived variable is an indicator of household deprivation. A household is defined as deprived in the education dimension if no person aged 16 to pensionable age has at least level 2 education (group 1 in Scotland) - see Highest level of qualification (HLQPUK) for definition of level 2 and group 1 - and no person aged 16 to 18 is a full-time student.

Applicability: All occupied household spaces, UK.

Electoral Ward 2007

In Scotland, each Council area contains a number of electoral wards. The voters in each of these electoral wards elect councillors to the local council. Prior to 2007 each electoral ward elected a single councillor (a single-member ward) to the local council. In 2007, with the introduction of proportional representation, the number of wards was reduced and each electoral ward now elects either 3 or 4 councillors (multi-member wards).

Definition: A family is defined as a group of people who are:

• married, same-sex civil partnership or cohabiting couple, with or without child(ren),

• lone parent with child(ren),

• married, same-sex civil partnership or cohabiting couple with grandchild(ren) but with no children present from the intervening generation, or

• single grandparent with grandchild(ren) but no children present from the intervening generation.

Definition:

A Family Reference Person (FRP) identifies the person who is the reference person for a family in statistics relating to families in households. He/she is identified by criteria based on the family make up.

In a lone parent family it is taken to be the lone parent.
